Toyota and Others Involved in Testing Scandal Again
Toyota is facing a new challenge as it halts sales of several models in Japan due to flaws in vehicle verification, including safety tests. The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport, and Tourism announced that Toyota, along with Mazda, Honda, Suzuki, and Yamaha, will temporarily stop shipments of nearly 8 models combined. This follows orders for 85 industry companies to investigate certification irregularities.

Toyota has identified issues in current vehicle production, prompting the suspension of domestic sales for models like the Corolla Fielder, Corolla Axio, and Yaris Cross. The company also cited errors in past models like the Crown, Isis, Sienta, and RX. Chairman Akio Toyoda expressed regret and acknowledged Toyota’s imperfections, promising improvement.
The discrepancies arose because Toyota used stricter internal development data, which didn’t align with regulatory standards. Toyota plans to submit a detailed report to the ministry soon. The problems surfaced after Toyota’s affiliates—Hino Motors, Daihatsu Motor, and Toyota Industries—reported similar issues.
