Sindh Bans Choice Number Plate Issuance
Remember when we talked about Sindh having its first-ever auction for special car plates? Well, here’s an update on how you get your car number plates in the province now. The government has decided that people can no longer choose their own regular (choice number) car plate numbers. This means you can’t pick a specific number or letter combo anymore, whether it’s from the current series of plates or the new ones coming up.
Instead, everyone will get a plate number based on when they apply. It’s like standing in line – whoever applies first gets the next available number in the sequence. This applies to both private cars and government vehicles.

But there’s a catch: premium plates. These are special plates with unique numbers or letters that people might be willing to pay more for. If you want one of these premium plates, you can’t just ask for it. You’ll have to wait for the government to announce a special process for applying.
This new rule might be a change for some people in Sindh who were used to choosing their own plate numbers. But it’s meant to make things fairer for everyone, ensuring that everyone gets a plate based on when they applied, not based on connections or who gets there first.
In another interesting update, on June 29th, 2024, the Excise and Taxation Department of Sindh auctioned off 40 premium number plates, making a whopping 67.54 Crore PKR in total for the Sindh government.
The auction ceremony took place at a local hotel, where Senior Minister of Excise, Taxation, and Information in Sindh, Sharjeel Inam Memon, expressed gratitude to all participants. He emphasized that the ceremony wasn’t about privilege but about a noble cause.
During the event, the first number plate, “A1,” fetched an impressive 10 crore rupees, snapped up by businessman Muzamal Kareem with the highest bid. Senior Minister Sindh Sharjeel Memon presented Muzamal Kareem with the ownership certificate for the prized plate.
The second number plate, “A786,” was auctioned for 2.65 crore PKR, and Sindh Energy Minister Nasir Shah handed over the ownership certificate to the successful bidder.
