New Tram Service Is Coming To Lahore
Lahore’s Newest Transport Innovation: The City’s First Tram Service
Lahore, known as the city of gardens and the vibrant capital of Punjab, is once again set to enhance its transportation system. Following the success of the Orange Line Train and Metro Bus Service, the city is preparing to introduce another groundbreaking project.
The provincial government has approved the implementation of Pakistan’s first tram service in Lahore. This initiative aims to streamline transportation and add to the city’s urban charm. The approval was granted by Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz in a meeting at the Lahore Development Authority (LDA) headquarters.

Route & Stops
The tram route will span 11 kilometers, passing through prominent locations such as Liberty, Main Market, Mini Market, and Hali Road, with stops every 1 to 1.5 kilometers. This will offer a convenient and efficient travel option for both residents and visitors, helping them navigate the city’s bustling center with ease.
The trams will feature modern designs, potentially inspired by systems in Finland and China, ensuring a comfortable and stylish commuting experience.
Enhancing Lahore’s Urban Aesthetics
Beyond functionality, the tram service aims to enhance Lahore’s aesthetic appeal. MM Alam Road will undergo significant remodeling and beautification, featuring uniform roads and tuff tiles to create a cohesive and visually pleasing streetscape.
The project also includes construction, renovation, and rehabilitation plans for Gulberg and its surrounding areas. This comprehensive approach will ensure that the tram service integrates smoothly into the city’s existing infrastructure.
Although the official launch date has not been announced, the government is committed to completing the project swiftly. Ticket prices will be finalized upon project completion.
In addition to the tram service, Lahore residents can look forward to other infrastructure upgrades. The Chief Minister has also approved a signal-free corridor from Kareem Block to the Motorway, which, alongside the tram service, is expected to significantly improve traffic management in the city.
